Mystery Minerals Assignment: Not assigned, can't do this one from home!
Part 1: Our class will be set up with 10 different mystery mineral stations. You will be given 4 minutes at each station. You will fill out your big paper with the all of the characteristics of mineral identification we have studied and you will determine the identity of each mystery mineral. It's almost like you're a detective! You will pass in this sheet. (10 marks)
Part 2: You will pick 3 of the mystery minerals you liked the best. Find an online photo representing each of those 3, and as your first post of Unit 2 on your eP, you will upload the photos. Under each photo, describe what you did to determine (the whole process...all of the tests), the identity of each mystery mineral. Find an example of what it could look like here. When you are finished, hit publish, and let Mrs. Colpitts know that your assignment is ready to view. (15 marks)

Rock Star Assignment: Due April 17
After watching the Rock Star music video above, I hope you are inspired to drop a beat! With a partner, or a small group of 3, I would like you to create a short rap about the Rock Cycle and it's components. If you're not into the rap, you could write a poem instead. For both options, you need to have at least 12 lines of text.
Alternative assignment: Create a short story about a rock following the rock cycle. Give it a context and make it fun. Is it a story about a great rock love affair? Is the rocking trying to change its identify because it's in witness protection? Is it a story about a baby rock growing up to find its way in the world? Whatever you choose, be sure to throw in some scientific rock vocabulary.
Whichever option you choose, please submit your work on Unit 2 of your eP, under the heading "Rock Star Assignment" (all group members must do this). Your assignment will be graded on: completion of each stage of the rock cycle (3), accuracy and correct use of scientific terms (10), and effort/creativity (7) for a total of 20 marks.
