Breathe Me - Sia
Breathe Me, Sia
Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And the worst part is there's no one else to blame
[Chorus]
Be my friend, hold me
Wrap me up, unfold me
I am small, I'm needy
Warm me up and breathe me
Ouch, I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found
Yeah, I think that I might break
Lost myself again and I feel unsafe
[Chorus]
Be my friend, hold me
Wrap me up, unfold me
I am small, I'm needy
Warm me up and breathe me
Be my friend, hold me
Wrap me up, unfold me
I am small, I'm needy
Warm me up and breathe me
This is a very powerful song that is about struggle and losing hope. This song is about winding up at a point in your life where you just feel so broken. When you're so depressed that you feel like you are about to reach your breaking point, or as your getting to where you don't feel like yourself anymore and you can’t really even remember what you were like to begin with.
This song will access a different part of you if you are experiencing any of these emotions:
“Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And the worst part is there’s no one else to blame” (Furler, S & Carey, D 2004)
This line relates to a storm that hasn’t yet passed. The emotional storm that is passing through, which is slowing pulling us deeper into depression and farther from recovery. As it’s becoming more real to us, more knowing and more ourselves. In that aftermath, we get an honest confession, in the line “I’ve hurt myself again” (Furler & Carey, 2018) leading us to our plea for friendship, warmth, and understanding in the chorus:
“Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small and needy
Warm me up
And breathe me” (Furler, S & Carey, D 2004)
This section of the song is about confessing the part of you that is hurting and in need of something more than yourself. You may be in need of another person who can care for you when you are no longer able to do that for yourself. You may need someone to hold you and be there for you for as long as you need.
This song is a very deep and personal song that speaks to many different mental health diagnosis such as depression and anxiety that one person may experience, and having a song like this can help you get through it and know that you are not alone in this feeling and knowing that the dark cloud will pass and you will be able to breathe again.

This song will access a different part of you if you are experiencing any of these emotions:
- You feel like you continuously hurt yourself in some way no matter how much you try to stop and there's no one who can take the blame for how your life is now.
- Feeling like everything is your fault.
- When you actually become afraid of yourself, afraid to live, knowing that the smallest thing will break you.
- Needing someone to keep you going, to give you a reason to live, so you're begging this person to just be there, to be a friend to you so you can feel like you're worth something again, like you're actually needed in this world, hoping to just find one purpose to keeping pushing instead of giving up.
